Brazilian Jiu-jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger, heavier assailant by using proper technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground. BJJ can be practised in a gi like those worn by judo practitioners or in shorts and rash guard (no gi).

Mixed Martial Arts

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a full-contact combat sport that allows both striking and grappling, both standing and on the ground, using techniques from other combat sports and martial arts.

Gloucester Mixed Martial Arts enjoyed a successful day in London recently at the IBJJF National Championship. Antanas won the black belt no-gi division winning all matches by submission. Ryan Graham also took home the bronze in his division after some very tough matches.

Antanas recognises that becoming a martial artist is a journey seldom taken alone and would like to thank the following members of the martial arts community for helping him become the practitioner he is today:

Mark Woodard, Mark Collett, Paul Sutherland, Tony Tenerova, Tony Mayers, Islan Altuev and Checkmat BJJ legend Chico Mendes.

He now fully intends to pass on that collective knowledge and experience to his own students.
